You want your Nissan to run well for years to come, helping save money on unnecessary repairs and time dealing with problems. The way to do that is to follow the suggested maintenance schedule, which Nissan put together so you don’t have to guess about what to do. If you keep all invoices and receipts for the work, showing that you followed this schedule could mean that your car is worth more if you decide to sell it.

  • 5,000 Miles/6 Months:The tires need to be rotated, while the engine oil and filter should be replaced. A technician should also inspect several items such as the steering linkage ball joints, brake pads, suspension parts and the exhaust system, to name a few.
  • 10,000 Miles/12 Months:This checkup involves everything from the previous interval, plus replacing the brake fluid. The list of items to check is longer, with additional items such as the transmission fluid, differential oil, drive shaft bolts, brake lines, etc.
  • 15,000 Miles/18 Months:The battery for the vehicle’s key should be swapped out, as should the in-cabin air microfilter. The engine oil and filter should also be changed and the tires rotated. The same checklist of items from the first interval should also be inspected.
  • 20,000 Miles/24 Months:The brake fluid needs to be changed, tires rotated, and engine oil/filter replaced. The inspection list grows again, adding items such as the front suspension ball joints, propeller shaft, steering linkage ball joints and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses.
  • 25,000 Miles/30 Months:This checkup involves a tire rotation, engine oil/filter replacement and the usual list of maintenance inspection items.
  • 30.000 Miles/36 Months:The following items need to be replaced: engine air filter, engine oil/filter, CVT fluid, brake fluid and in-cabin microfilter. Several inspection points need to be gone over by a technician.
  • 35,000 Miles/42 Months:This inspection is routine, matching the first interval. For 40,000 miles or 48 months, the engine mounting insulator needs to swapped out and the manual transmission oil should be changed. Everything else is routine.
  • 45,000 Miles/54 Months:The non-routine items are changing the key’s battery and replacing the in-cabin microfilter. At 50,000 miles or 60 months, the inspection list grows again.
  • 60,000 Miles/72 Months:The spark plugs, brake fluid, in-cabin microfilter, engine air filter, engine oil/filter, CVT fluid and key battery need to be replaced. The tires should be rotated and technicians have a standard list of inspection items.

The service intervals continue throughout the life of your vehicle, with many of the same items being replaced and inspected regularly to ensure problems are caught and eliminated early. As a Nissan owner, you can opt for a premium maintenance upgrade, which does an even more thorough job of guarding against problems down the road. The same items are performed each time at 30,000 miles or 36 months, 60,000 miles or 72 months, 90,000 miles or 108 months and 120,000 miles or 144 months. Among them is lubricating all of the locks and hinges, plus replacing a number of items such as the wiper blades, radiator cap, transmission fluid, differential oil, drive belts and transfer case oil. The technician also inspects all of the lights and adjusts the headlights, if needed.

Be sure to also check the schedule of maintenance in your owner’s manual, as specific maintenance may vary across different vehicles.
