The Nissan Titan XD has generated plenty of buzz in the automotive community. Since 2003, when it first debuted, the Titan has undergone several major changes to suit evolving customer needs as well as advancements in technology and engineering. If you’re in need of a new truck to haul your boat, carry your supplies, or transport you to work every morning, you’ll want to take these must-know facts about the Titan XD into consideration.

THE 2016 NISSAN TITAN XD IS A LONG TIME COMING

Nissan intended to debut the second-generation Titan several years ago, but logistical issues delayed that plan, which means the manufacturer has had plenty of time to perfect this release. The resulting truck was 10 years in the making and engineered both in the United States and in Nissan’s Japan headquarters.

According to Car and Driver, one of the biggest changes to the Titan involves its unquestionable power. Nissan partnered with engine manufacturer Cummins to release the Titan with a 5.0-liter V-8 turbo-diesel engine that offers plenty of power under the hood. You won’t have to worry about losing steam if you’re hauling a trailer up a mountain road or powering down an off-road trail. You get 310 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque.

YOU HAVE THE OPTION OF FIVE TRIM LEVELS

f you’re hoping to build the truck of your dreams, you can take comfort in the knowledge that Nissan is offering the Titan XD in five distinct trim levels:

  • Titan XD S
  • Titan XD SV
  • Titan XD Pro-4X
  • Titan XD SL
  • Titan XD Platinum Reserve

The bottom two trim levels come with six seats and four doors, while the upper three options reduce the seating capacity to five.

THE BASIC TRIM LEVEL COMES WITH PLENTY OF STANDARD FEATURES

If you’re interested in the Titan XD S, you won’t have to dig into the options to get great features. While the S version’s optional splashguards, bedliner, tow hitch kit, and fog lights might prove too tempting for consumers to resist, the standard remote keyless entry and NissanConnect system are undeniable advantages without any extra expense.

YOU GET LIGHT-DUTY MANEUVERABILITY WITH HEAVY-DUTY TOWING POWER

The revamped Titan XD is designed to appeal to drivers who want the benefits of a heavy-duty truck without any of the cumbersome features. Consequently, the 2016 model is surprisingly light on its feet and easy to maneuver, but you don’t have to sacrifice towing power.

In fact, one could argue that it’s built for exactly that. Nissan has incorporated features like sway and brake control to make towing everything from a flat-bed trailer to a livestock trailer as safe and intuitive as possible. It’s also equipped with a downhill hauling mode for consumers who live in hilly terrain or who like to travel through the mountains.

The Titan XD has a 12,000 pound towing capacity.

THE UPPER TRIM LEVELS OFFER EVEN MORE FEATURES

The Houston Chronicle reports that the Titan XD offers even more features in the upper trim levels, whether you go with the slightly trimmed-down SL or the full-scale Platinum Reserve. The SL features leather seats all around with heated seats in the front as well as a power sliding window in the rear. You’ll also get LED headlights and 20-inch wheels (versus the 17-inch wheels on the lower trim levels).

If you upgrade to the Platinum Reserve, you’ll get heated seats in the rear and cooled seats in the front. You might like the fully integrated gooseneck hitch and the Around View Monitor, which allows you to see 360 degrees around the vehicle for maximum safety and convenience.

Regardless of the trim level you choose, you can opt for the tow package. You’ll get the innovative Trailer Light Function Check, which ensures all your brake lights and turn lights are functioning properly before you hit the road with a trailer attached to the truck. Extendable tow mirrors offer another handy feature with some trim levels.

The safety features offered on the Nissan Titan XD are enough to make you feel secure no matter where the road takes you. Electronic brake force distribution and brake assist functionality are just the starting points.

You’ll also appreciate the traction control and blind spot warning system. If you plan to haul your kids as well as less valuable cargo, you can take advantage of the LATCH system for all passenger safety belts.

The 2016 Titan XD offers a pleasant change of pace from previous versions of this truck. If you’re in the market for a handy road partner, drop by Nissan of Cool Springs to test drive one of your very own
